The concept of hypertext is one that has changed our lives for the better since it came to fruition. Hypertext is, as I understand it, the text that contains links and graphics to move users through different screens. It is an intricate web of information that allows for interaction between author and reader. The job of the creator of such texts is to limit and organize the information in a way that helps the reader achieve their goal. This concept of hypertext has truly revolutionized our society and the field of technical writing. In order to truly understand how this concept has come to be the rhetorical monster that it is, we must examine it from the beginning and see the evolution of hypertext, as we know it today. This analysis will be a discussion of the history of hypertext and just what exactly hypertext is in today's technical writing world.
